Valerie is a North Carolina native and currently resides in Wilmington with her husband and two young sons. Working primarily in watercolor, she is known for her loose, expressive botanicals that capture both the delicacy and vitality of the natural world.
Her connection to gardens began in childhood, wandering barefoot through the local garden center her family owned for more than thirty years. Absorbing the quiet language of plants and seasons, flowers became both her first language and lifelong muse. She later spent much of her early adulthood as a florist and flower grower, experiences that continue to inform the rhythm and intimacy of her artwork.
She creates pieces that embody freedom, movement, and growth — an ongoing reflection of both nature and seasons of life. In addition to her studio practice, she also accepts home portrait commissions, bringing the same softness and attention to detail to architectural subjects.
